You can make a copy (in the same gallery) then move the copy. Can't be done in one step, must use two.

    Tools... Make a copy
    Tools... Move to gallery

Why copy? Why not just use our awesome "Collect Photos" feature? http://www.smugmug.com/help/collecting-photos

Because the collect photos feature is extremely limited. For example, I can't use it to give someone a non-watermarked version of a photo.

That must be because it is a virtual copy and not a true real copy.....I just do not like virtual things.....

Thanx Denise for actually answering my question..........I greatly appreciate the straight forward answer and solution that you gave.......I was just hoping that with all the "awesomeness" we could do it in one fell swoop by now........

Sorry - and the problem with this is? I'm trying to understand your objection. Photo is uploaded to gallery A. You set up Gallery B and you can collect said photo from gallery A. It's now in both places.

Just to state a few reasons.
Because it can not have a different caption, keywords, watermark, size
setting, right click, print setting, etc.
All these have been mentioned as to why some don't use it.

Exactly. I do use collections/smart galleries, but they don't work for every situation. The copy/move method Denise posted above is virtually (pun intended) impossible to use in a large gallery. I've posted about this a few times in the past. SmugMug still NEEDS a "copy to another gallery" tool.

When you use the create a copy tool, you end up with two identical images in the same gallery. It's seemingly impossible to figure out which is the new copy and which is the original. Now normally it wouldn't matter which is which. But, if you move the wrong one, you just broke any links to the old one. That ALMOST bit me once... I was given a bunch of links to photos on my site that I needed to copy to another gallery in order to provide full res images to one person. I mistakenly broke the link to one image and then when I clicked on that link (in an email) later, it brought me to the first image in that gallery. I easily could have become confused and provided that image instead of the other one.

Also, after creating a copy, you can't easily move that photo to another gallery. You have to go into the move tool, which brings up all the thumbnails in that gallery. You have to find just the one you want, right after you found it to copy it. I'm not sure why there isn't a "single image" move tool.

If you have lots of images to copy and move, it becomes a complete nightmare. Instead, I download each image in full resolution and then upload them to the destination gallery. Seems like such a waste. I can't figure out why a "copy to another gallery" tool would be such a big deal to add.

As I said before, I think if every smugmug employee was tasked with copying 30 images from one large gallery to another using the copy tool and the move tool, we'd have a "copy to another gallery" tool built, tested, and running in 2 hours.

I always glance at the photo key so I can quickly tell which one is the original
(if I remember :D). And also have to remember the position relative to the
    copy, before or after.

It's way, way, way easier and more reliable to just re-upload. Smugmug is never my permanent store for anything so I always have my images locally. If I need additional copies in other galleries, I just re-upload because make copy, figure out which is the original, move that to another gallery (particularly when the move interface doesn't disambiguate galleries with same names but in different categories) is a royal pain. Just reupload. Yes, you have to wait for the upload, but you can configure the upload and then walk away - a lot less total time spent working on it with the reupload.
