Ugly baby and other weekend shots

Hello all,

I was down at the Monterey Wharf this weekend and I figured I'd see some seals, otters and pelicans. I did see those but I also saw some other birds and animals.

No organ grinder, but this little guy was there making a living and making people smile.

I saw a guy riding a bike with this funny ornament on the handlebars :rofl

35792876-L.jpg

I saw this couple (probably husband and wife....lol) discussing matters on a bouy.

35792871-L.jpg

Finally, after dinner we went for a walk on Asilomar Beach and ran across this young buck, just sitting in the bushes I had to use the internal flash on him :rolleyes

I expected to return with some family pics and the normal beach birds and mammals. The parrot, monkey and deer were unexpected and a nice bonus :):

Thanks for looking,
Steve

Steve. those are wonderful, just wonderful.

The monkey in the old carriage, it is one of the best photos I have seen on dgrin. Don't you think? I just love it! And you did such a good job on the capture, with the money in the man's hand, the monkey and carriage. Such a photo!

Unlike Harry, I never shoot stuffed animals or birds lol3.gif This guy was real. We had passed him while he was grazing on the way down to the beach. It was better light so I didn't have to flash him. But I only had the 28-75mm Tamron attached rolleyes1.gif

So who's the monkey's uncle?eek7.gif A monkey in a carraige is original! The deer looks out of place on a beach... just used to seeing them in a field or woods.

Yeah, the day turned out OK. It was supposed to be sort of a somber occassion, but my wife's family is sooooo kewl. We had a ball and only one person yelled for Ralphhhhhhh :puke I have to hand it to Ed Hughes. Shooting from a rocking and rolling boat is a bear eek7.gif Between trying to hold the camera on target and trying not to fall overboard I found myself doing the Sid squat quite often.......lol

    Laughing.gif Ben,
Well good thing Andy wasn't with me. He likes venison.....lol Although a picture of a drooling Andy chasing a deer would be priceless :eat lol3.gif Who knows, he might even have tried to take a bite out of the parrot and those seals too ne_nau.gif (I hear they taste jus like chicken....lol) That boy definitely has a good appetite.

Yep, that deer's pose reminded me of Andy and I after dinner. We usually sit around in a stupor after a good meal too....lol That deer surprised us. We were on a path walking to the beach, came around a turn and there he was. As I mentioned, these deer shots were with the 28-75mm @ full zoom. He was maybe 8-10 feet away and could have cared less about a group of humans coming up on him. As we walked another 100 feet we saw a sign warning of mountain lion attacks. I guess we didn't look as hungry or threatening to Mr Deer as a puma would ne_nau.gif And no, I didn't get a mountain lion shot....lol

I'm not sure whether the monkey is there during the week. I remember a monkey being there on weekends over the last 25 years or so. I haven't been there on the weekend for maybe 10 years or so. But there was a monkey there then too. There was also the "Blessing of the Fleet" Italian festival going on in the area in front of the Wharf. So maybe he and his owner were taking advantage of the increased traffic ne_nau.gif

    Kirwin,
That deer surprised us as well. But it was near dusk and they do like to come out and play around that time of day. As we were walking back we saw another couple does and a fawn just walking down the road...lol I would have needed to use ISO12800 to shoot them with the Bigma lol3.gif

Laughing.gif I was thinking about you buddy. The wharf had so much more going on than when we last visited and the Asilomar Beach is definitely worth a sunset shoot one of these days thumb.gif Not to mention all the seafood we devoured at Rappa's :eat
