I got these Saturday morning after setting up before sunrise. There was a great orange and yellow sunrise off camera to the right. Some are HDR processed and some are just tweaked a bit with tone curves as a single shot.

Let me know what you think either good or bad. Thanks.

The sunrise reflection in #5 makes this the standout for me. Terrific!

The dove of the desert. I lived in Tucson for awhile and went to church there.

My pick is number two.... It has a good feel to it. The composition works well and the exposure seems right on. I would clone out the palm tree on the right.

You are in good company ..Ansel Adams shot pictures of it...:D

Thanks Bill, At first I wasn't sure what reflection you were referring to then I noticed the colors in the center window on the mission. Although the color in the window is similar to the sunrise it was actually from a light inside the building. That shot was a 20 second exposure before the sun came up and the inside lighting was still pretty strong.

    Thanks for the comment.

Gary, thanks for looking and sharing your thoughts. I bet Ansel's version was a lot more powerful. :D

This is one of my favorites as well, something about it just feels good to me when I look at it. Good tip on the palm tree I'll take care of that.

Really nice shots and processing Brad thumb.gif

Why was the bell tower on camera right not finished?

Why was the camera left side refinished, but not the other side?

An interesting place for sure! I love old missions.

Thanks Randy. The real reason on why the East bell tower was never completed is still a bit of a mystery.

    http://emol.org/tucson/sanxavier/construction.html

"Several theories exist about why it was left unfinished. It is not known if the church's 7,000 peso loan was not enough, or if the priests decided not to finish it so that no taxes would have to be paid. Another theory says that a worker was killed during construction and no one else could be convinced to go up."

The mission is still undergoing a restoration effort so that's why the West tower and front have been restored but the East tower is still waiting for more restoration funds to be raised before they can complete the project.

The artwork inside the mission is equaling amazing.

Now is a good time since there is no scaffolds up. Not sure when they will get the funds to start the restoration on the East tower. Come on down. :D
