Xmas tree hunting, Santa & friends...
1. Watching Santa from afar.
2. Going over the list...
3. Sophie's "sisters"...Our friend's daughters, Nola (Haiti) and Bryn (Vietnam)
4. Mom getting the play by play from Sophie's talk with the Big Man.
5. Ran into some friends as we were heading out. They asked for a quick family snap shot.

in #2, I would have put spot metered off santa's beard or white part of his hat and raised exposure by 1.5 and it would have been perfect His hat, beard would have been nice and white and everything else would have fallen in its place.

Thank you for the comment. I primarily shoot Av and Evaluative metering and when your kid is chatting it up with Mr Claus, you strike while the moment is hot! But your point is very well taken and much appreciated. Those types of thoughts need to become more "automatic" to me as I grow and learn.
It is about how that thing looks photographed." Garry Winogrand
