My 1st Attmept At Sports Posters
After seeing some of the GREAT work by some of the Grinners on this site I thought I would try to make a few sports posters from some of this fall's action shots that I got.
I used Photoshop Elements 8 for my posters and went with the dimensions of 16" X 20".
I went with the technique of using one still shot as the focus of the poster to go along with one action shot followed by other information.
I was able to put together my posters the way I did because of my habit of getting to the games early and getting lots of "pre-game" shots. I do this because they make for great individual shots at the end of the season and they sometimes help me identify players in a picture that I submit to the paper later on. Sometimes I can't see the number on a uniform in a great action shot so I go to my pre-game shots and look for an identifier . . . an armband, a headband, a knee brace, fingernail polish, what color and brand of shoes, ect.
I tried to give the posters a 3D look by placing the still shot inside of the frame along with an outside glow and then placing everything else on the frame with a coordinated drop shadow.
Here are two of my earlest football posters
When I started on my volleyball posters I got the idea that it would be nice if I used still shots that would make it appear that the players were actually looking at their smaller action photo:
In my last few posters I tried to give the posters a little more 3D effect by taking the inside frame and giving the edge a corresponding bevel to go with the drop shadows:
Thanks for looking and any constructive criticism will be taken as advice . . . I will accept any ideas to get better at what I do.

I was thinking maybe using a transparent clip art image of each schools' mascot on a lighter gray background?
Any suggestions for my basketball posters?

I thought about that too . . . but I got to the point where if I started changing things at the point when I had them done then I was afraid that I would never be satisfied enough to post anything.
It was the day before basketball season started and I wanted to concentrate on basketball.
Thanks for the input . . . I will keep this in mind when I do my basketball posters in the spring.
Overall I like the concept it was just a little of the excution that got me. It was your first attempt so keep grinding them out paying attention to the little things that will make a big difference later.

I just ran out of time . . . the day I posted these I was off to do my 1st basketball game of the season that night.
Thanks for the input. I already have the advice given to me on this thread tucked away for the end of the basketball season.
Thanks again for the advice.
