What triggers a change to an album's lastupdated value?

I'm implementing caching in my mobile app, and am using the lastupdated filter to get updates. However, if i do something like change an album name, it doesnt appear to update lastupdated. Is that a bug or the intended design?

    I need to dig into the code to determine exactly what changes it, but I'm pretty sure that it's only add/removing images from an album.

    Any chance of that changing? I'm trying to optimize queries, but would like to be able to reflect album metadata updates
