P&S with remote shutter capability?

I'm looking for a small camera that has the ability to accept a remote shutter button. If it used the same connector as my Canon 40D would be great, but not a big deal. CF or SD cards preferred. Need to be able to put either into a manual mode, or in the very least into Tv and Av modes. Manual focusing is probably asking a bit too much.

An alternative I'm seriously considering is to buy an old Canon Rebel or 10D series camera and a kit lens and use that, but I'd really like something smaller.

Do you desire tethered/wired or wireless remote?

Is this for an outdoor application?

Wireless would be nice. Or a really long wire. And yes, outdoors. Would potentially be in harms way. :O

You might take a look at the offerings at this site and see if they have anything right for your application:

I think you can make a DIY one with CHDK.

Canon G11/G12 takes a remote wired switch (RS60-E3, same as Rebel IIRC, not 40D). You could plug in a wireless receiver to that remote port on the camera, either a cheap wireless shutter release or your choice of RF flash triggers (edit: with the right cable).

The Olympus EP-2 accepts a remote shutter release and fits the rest of your description. Tv/Av/full manual, zoom-assisted mf or af. People rave about the electronic viewfinder that is usually bundled with it. A decent selection of interchangeable lenses from Panasonic and Olympus, with a few gems. And it has IBIS, so you can mount legacy glass on it and have it stabilized.

I have an E-PL1, and I wish it was remote shutter release-compatible. Would make time lapse so much easier. Otherwise, it's very similar to the E-P2 and it's a great little camera, takes very nice pictures, loads of fun and it goes everywhere with me.thumb.gif
