Homepage Slideshow Password Bug?

This wasn't here yesterday, and I haven't changed a thing. My homepage slideshow is asking for a password, but ONLY when I'm logged in. I don't understand why. I never set a password for it.

Andy, it's still happening. This is what it looks like when I'm logged in.

Hm. I see it just fine, no password required. Can you please clear your cache, close & reopen your browser and try again?

I was able to fix it, but it wasn't due to clearing my cache (which I tried in multiple browsers with no success). I had to change my slideshow "Source" to Most Popular Photos, then back to the Gallery I had before. Now it seems to work fine. Strange.

    Anyhow, thanks Andy.

Mine's doing the same thing. I cleared my cache and reopened...still doing it. Perhaps it's the new Firefox upgrade? I opened it in a different browser and it looks fine. I'm glad to hear it doesn't look that way to others. I wonder if it does, though if people are browsing to it on the new FF?

My slideshow has also been asking for a password the last day or two, but it goes away after a couple of minutes. I've tried sidepocket's fix but the password page had already disappeared for now so I'm not sure if it worked for me.

EDIT: Happening again this morning despite changing the slideshow source and clearing cache.

I had the same problem yesterday. It happened every time I tried it ... right up until the time that I went to write an email to support about it. Right then I displayed my home page again (same browser, no refresh, just re-visited the page) and it went away. I'm HOPING that meant it was fixed and so I didn't send the email. But based on the above "I don't see it" comments ... it does worry me that it was never found and fixed.

I have the same problem. Get the password box only when signed in. If I click slideshow settings and dont change a thing and save, it works until I close the brower page. Next time I open it signed in it does the same thing. Not signed in it works fine.

If you change the slideshow source settings to most recent or popular you dont get the password only from a gallery.

I'm glad I wasn't just imagining it. It happened again today. I used the same fix and it worked again.

yes works until you change it back to the show from a gallery and then when you close the browser window, the next time you open it , the password message comes back. Its wierd that it only happens when you are signed in to your account. :D

Damn, you're right. After I close my browser and load it up again, it comes back. What a pain. Please fix, SmugMug.

I am seeing this as well. My slideshow is pulling from a hidden album but not password. I am seeing the issue on Chrome 9.0.597.16

Logging out and logging back in from my account fixed the issue for me. But, after I closed my browser and returned logged in, it requested my password again. It appears to only be an issue when you are returning to your homepage and are already logged in to your account.

That was the conclusion I came to also.

Happening to me as well, though as it can be seen by the general "not-logged-in" public, should not be of too great a concern.. I'm not sure it it is linked, but I also can't seem to use the simple drag-n-drop uploader either.

I just noticed this today for me. I left my machine up for a couple of days on accident, and FF upgraded. So that was the only thing changed on my browser. No changes to the site or any gallery settings.

Agreed - i has happened to me yesterday and today. Of course since I only switched out to the new slideshow two days ago, I can't speak to what the behaviour was prior to that.

Thanks Andy, I just had my first customer report the bug to me as soon as she arrived on my site, FYI. She was not signed in to a smugmug account like the rest of us reporting the problem.

And for anybody else here, do you know of a slideshow setting that doesn't bring up the bug for the time being? For example, if we used "Recent photos" until the bug is fixed, rather than a specific gallery, does anyone know if that will at least keep it from getting to customers? Or what about using the flash code slideshow rather than the smugmug homepage slideshow? Anyone have a clue?

For about the last 24 hours I haven't seen the bug reappear after setting my homepage slideshow to "Most Popular Photos" instead of a specific gallery.

Maybe this will help some of us through the time it takes them to develop the fix.
