twitter feed problems

When I click Be Social and then choose Twitter, then enter text, I usually get an error message saying I'm over the 140 char limit.

By experimenting, I see that the very long Smugmug url is taking up most of the characters, so I can successfully send my photo to Twitter only with a very short (e.g. 20 char) message.

Is there no way to have the url shortened, as described in the documentation?

In our new Be Social there will be a shortener - it's in the works, and I hope we get it out soon - stay tuned!

A suggestion for all these "Be Social" things in which the target site has a character or word limit: If at all possible & SmugMug is still tweaking this, it would be so very handy if Smug could include a stopper or warning when you're about to go over the limit, or a counter showing where you're at & what the limit is. This is much better than not finding out until you hit "submit"... or worse yet, til you get on the site.
