Icebergs At Sunrise

These were taken in 2009 when we charted a fishing boat to go shoot these icebergs at sunrise. We left the harbour at 3 AM so that we would be in position. It was about an hours sail to get there and we just made it in time. I'm always tweaking the more I learn about editing.. Hope you enjoy..

Hi Blair, really interesting shots here - a 3am start shows real dedication. The lighting on 1 and 4 is particularly nice.

    Cheers, Richard.

Wow! Great shots. You don't often see icebergs with that kind of light. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Richard..over the last four years I became rather obsessed with these (icebergs) and have travelled over 35,000 km by car chasing them. This year there were not any and I hope it was a one off.I have already planned my return to both Newfoundland for work and Coastal Labrador for more icebergs next year.

Sunrise and Sunset are the sweetest times since they can be very tricky to shoot in full sun....Thanks

Thanks Squirl, that was the reward for getting up and lasted only a couple of minutes. Shooting off a rocking boat, hand-held in low light always makes for an element of doubt until you get back to the house to see what you got.

Beautiful shots. I can understand how it could become an obsession. I especially like the light and color in the first two. thumb.gif

Who am I kidding, they are all incredible. That must have been a sight to witness.

Thanks brikeson...This is why I have no problem starting so early when I'm there, well, almost no problem. When you realize that that ice is anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 years old and has travelled from Greenland it kind of gives them a mystical quality. Everyone is different and even the smaller ones like #1 are intriguing. The ice is also great in drinks, it has a snap, crackle, pop to it.........Hence the odd rough morning..:confused
