We'll be taking a big driving trip to Yellowstone and so on next summer. One part of the trip is down through Denver, CO for 3 days. I'd like to hit the Rocky Mountain National Park on the way down from Yellowstone and then go on down to Denver. If you've been in this area before and have some advice on safe and scenic places to stay, let me know :-) Rockies would mainly be the usual tourist stuff with a 6 1/2 year old boy. Denver would be a mix of seeing the city I guess and any other fun stuff like museums that my boy might be interested in too.

What I'm looking for is:
1. Nice/safe neighborhood
2. Scenic, if possible
3. Under $150 per night
4. Convenient to the local attractions...well, as convenient as possible.

Thanks!

Lots of cool places to visit while in Denver.

    My suggestions;

For food: The capital grille. The sirloin is incredible!!!

For lodging: Hotel Teatro, Brown Palace, for a really nice cheap room check out the Hotel VQ (formally Holiday Inn). It sits next door to the Broncos Stadium and overlooks the city. Very cool place and the restaurant is decent.

For pics: The 16th st mall offers so much that it is a must see. Central City and Georgetown, Pikes Peak, the Byers Museum, Confluence Park, and Union Station.

    Cherry Creek
There are some hotels near Cherry Creek which are pretty safe and under $$$. My husband last stayed at a Sheraton in the area. He grew up in the area. Washington Park might be interesting to shoot.

The Capital Hill district has some interesting old homes that are historical. There is a botanical garden there also. The city/county building is fun. We also love going to Colorado Springs area.

Up in Rocky Mountain National Park is Estes Park - breathtaking. Go to the Stanley Hotel. The views from there are also great but there is a lot to snap all around the hotel and the town too.

Don't forget Boulder. We love a restaurant there called Flagstaff House. Great views.

16th Street Mall? I though it was 17th. Thats all called LoDo *Lower Downtown). There is also an amusement park in the area but it might have closed since we were there. Illich's?

    Three days won't be enough.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to try to stay at least one night in the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park....then find a place in Denver for the remainder of the time. Lots of things to do and to decide on....will be a tough choice :-)

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is very amazing, as are the old mining remains at the back of Pike's Peak (look for Victor).
