Hi ginger
I'm pretty sure that butterflies migrate north in the summer and south in the winter. I do not think they overwinter as cocoons, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks, Trish. It'll have to be a small print - this is a 100% crop. Was walking the dog so only took the 17 - 85mm lens, expecting to take a landscape not a macro!

Very pretty shot--lovely angle and wonderful lighting. The purple flowers in the background give an extra accent to the wonderful coloring of this frame.
