I did photo's for Christmas cards for a customer, minimum time involved. Charged $100 with a $50 print credit. Now I want to give her the $50.00 coupon towards ordering photos.....is there anyway that I can end up losing $$ on this....it will exclude S&H and my prices are all minimum of around 50% mark-up over the SM default price.
I feel silly asking, but after reading all the prior posts I was totally confused...lol!
And is there a real difference between $50 print credit and $50 off an order, as far as $$ in your pocket?
Any other advice/experience regarding this is also appreciated!
thank you!

    Hi Shaye,

With a Print Credit, they'll spend the $50 on your retail, marked up prices. You'll be responsible for the ACTUAL cost of the prints/products, plus 15% commission on the sale to SmugMug. Depending on the actual products they order, and the markup you've applied, it will adjust the charge from SmugMug to you. There WILL be a charge to you, but if your profits on the order are enough, it will cover that charge. I'd have to have specific examples of products, cost, and markup to get you more specific info, though.

The differences between a $50 Print Credit and $50 Off coupon are few, but important. With a print credit, that money will remain indefinitely until it's spent, like a gift card or prepaid credit card. If they place one order for $25, they will have $25 to spend on another order in the future. With a $50 Off coupon, it's only good for THIS order, regardless of how much is spent.

I hope this helps! Shout with more questions.

:) Thank you so much for your timely response........so if I have a 50% mark-up on all of my products then there really is no way I can get into a situation where it costs me $. That was really my concern. Thank you! Have a great day :)

Is the 15% that goes to SmugMug on the default price, or the amount charged over the default price? If I let someone purchase prints from their gallery at default prices does SM charge me the 15% on that?

    Shaye, No.

If you sell a print that costs $1 and you sell it for $11, there's $10 in profit there. You get $8.50 and we get $1.50. At cost orders, you get no profit on.
