Here's something you don't see every day, a Frozen Lighthouse. Windy conditions caused the lighthouse in Cleveland Ohio to be covered in ice.

that is unbelieveable! I saw some of the rest of your images of this lighthouse, that had to be dangerous to walk on. Great capture!

Nice shot. Almost looks like an intricate sandcastle.

The Cleveland Harbor West Pierhead Lighthouse Sleeps
I made a trip up to Wendy Park yesterday evening and captured a few exposures (3 shot bracket) of the Lighthouse/Icehouse at night.
    IMG_1296_HDR_800.jpg

The three exposures were combined in CS5, using the Nik HDR Efex Pro plugin to make tonal adjustments. The final process was to darken the sky. I've seen a bunch of day photos and I wanted to see what the Lighthouse would look like at night. I really like the results.

    Exposure: -3, -1, 1
    Aperture: F10
    Camera: 7D
    Lens: 70-200 F4L IS, 200mm focal length
Crop: final photo is about 80% of the original

No problem Denise, I went back to the Lighthouse on 12/29 and took some more photos, but haven't posted them yet. The Frozen Lighthouse probably won't be around much longer as the temperature is supposed to be in the high 40's by the end of the week.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I went back on 12/29 to get a few more photos of the lighthouse but haven't posted them yet, unfortunately the Frozen Lighthouse won't be around much longer as the temperature is supposed to be in the high 40's by the end of the week. There were about 20 - 30 photographers at Wendy Park in Cleveland, Ohio getting shots of the lighthouse yesterday.

I was in the Cleveland area over Christmas and wanted to see and photograph this and other area lighthouses. Unfortunately the larger lens I ordered hadn't shown up and the sky was a uniform 50% gray. Then one day, the clouds had some small streaks of different shades of gray and it wasn't snowing, so I hurried to downtown Cleveland (temp. 25, wind chill 11) to see what I could do with the lenses and weather available.
My take on the Cleveland light and the two lighthouses at Fairport Harbor are at http://beautyofnaturephotography.com/Lighthouses/Lake-Erie-Lighthouses-included/15269677_Go95c

    Nice Shots of the Lighthouses!!!!

Unfortunately due to warm weather and rain the Frozen Lighthouse isn't frozen any more, but I did get a few more shots on 12/29 before it melted.

Here's one of flock of Gulls attacking the Lighthouse, I think Alfred Hitchcock was inside the lighthouse filming the event! rolleyes1.gif

Here's a shot of the Fairport Harbor light house from last winter. Lake Erie was frozen and we walked out on the ice to get some shots.

    Thanks for the comment, Ron.

As luck would have it, the warmer weather and clear(er) skies started about six hours after I had to head home. Sure would have been nice to have some sunlight and blue skies for my shots.

The gulls were pretty thick on the harbor side at Fairport, but not so much when I was at Edgewater/Wendy Park/USCG Station. Certainly nothing like your mass attack.
