Nice Ric, looks cold! Is that first one a European House Sparrow?

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Up close and personal. That's the way to shoot the birdies. I would have liked to see greater depth of field in the first image. I know this is difficult in not so bright light and probably shot with a good sized telephoto at closer distance adding to the lack of DOF. Do like the shot though.

Ok... now I'm going to sound like I'm picking on you. I think the 2nd one has TOO MUCH negative space. I think the impact of the image would improve with a tighter crop. The additional BG information doesn't really add tothe shot or help the comp. The subject also approaches dead center of the frame. I think removing some off the left and top OR bottom would improve the composition of this image. I can understand if you like the background and I'm not saying crop so tight you lose the nice tonal or spacial quality of the BG. Just removing some of the excess negative space to improve the comp. would be nice.

Keep those itty bitty sissy birds coming. I seldom see them around here. We only have those large sized talon equiped killer birds or pelicans that eat large fish and small children and pets.

It was the lack of DOF that made it for me in the first shot. Kind of like the bird was looking through an invisible shield. Poking his head into my world...so to speak.

The second one isn't good enough to bother with. Really the crystallized branch was what I was after...the bird just meant I could post it here instead of Other Cool Shots! :D

Great shot of the house sparrow! While that second photo might benefit from cropping (though I know you don't want to invest more time on it), there is also something to be said for the feeling of cold and "loneliness" with the snow crystals on its perch and the "whiteout" of the background. You would still have that feel with some cropping though :)

rolleyes1.gifroflrolleyes1.gif Does that mean I have to have a branch in the way?

I have nothing against the BB...I'm just too lazy to bother with one...so I use natural light.
