More Refined Control of External Links?

Hi all,

I want to embed some of my pictures in medium size on external forums but for security/copyright reasons, I DO NOT want to turn on external links in the gallery settings. My issue with turning on the external links feature is that I have no control over the size of the picture the visitor can embed to his/her own site - you can pretty much grab it from thumbnail to XXL.

I'm looking for a more refined external link control, ideally to embed only the size I want without compromising the URL to the original sized photo. Maybe smugmug does have this level of control that I simply missed?

I'm sorry, such control does not exist. But at the pro level, you can block down to size Medium.

The only way I know of to do what you want is to create a separate gallery just for these external linkings. Make it unlisted (so the public doesn't see it when browsing your site). Turn external links on. Then, upload to that gallery images that are only as large as you want to link, thus there are no larger sizes based off the images in that gallery that one could embed. This gallery would only be used for external linking, never for printing or other purposes.

In addition to jfriend's suggestion of a separate gallery, you can hide the share button when not logged in. Yes, that can be bypassed, but it won't be as obvious to folks.
