These owls spend the summer in the Arctic region.Sometimes they come down to Northern Alberta in the winter time. From what ive read on them, one should take advantage of a good "Hawk owl year"because there might not be another for a decade or more.
These owls also dont come into contact with humans very much so when they do they usualy just keep perched and go about their business not minding the photographers at all.
Last year was a Northern Hawk Owl year and I came across these fantastic birds no less that 15 time on my outings. Here are some examples from last years efforts.Since these birds dont go very far south I thought I would share them with all of you below the 49th.Hope you enjoy them...Mike

Power poles or trees, its all the same to them.

He may have been wondering if I was going to climb up for a closer look.

I started to whistle and he turned his head just like my dog does.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Harry,I only hope I get a chance to do it again this year. They might not be around again for a decade or more.It all depends on the Vole population in the Arctic..ice
