Ive been a Pro user on Flickr for 4 years now. Each year I look at whats available before renewing Flickr. Overall, Flickr serves my needs but I wish it had a better layout/customization. One of the features I use a lot is the "Guest link" feature. Does SmugMug offer something similar? I know you have password protected albums, but Id rather not have to give someone a password. Leaning towards renewing Flickr since its still only $25/yr, would like to hear from others who switched and why.

Hi! Thanks for looking at us :D So, on SmugMug, Guests (visitors) only see what you want them to see. You can have galleries that are unlisted, and they will only be visible to you as owner. But you can shoot them a link so they can still see the gallery. You can have passworded galleries that are public or private (visible or not visible to visitors). Sounds like what you'll want to use is our Unlisted gallery feature, where the ones you don't want the public to see will be visible to you, but not visitors. And if you want them to see them, you just shoot them a link.

Does that help? Standing by, will be happy to answer more questions.

Thanks for the reply. So does these unlisted galleries have a random URL or is it something that someone could stumble upon or figure out if they change some letters or numbers in your member URL? The way Flickr works is your URL is something like this, www.flickr.com/username/some10digitnumber . The 10 digit number looks random but its its incremented pretty close to the photos that were uploaded before/after it.

Does SmugMug photos gets indexed by Google?

Does SmugMug have an import tool for users moving from Flickr?

Here is a link to one of my unlisted galleries

    http://www.danalphotos.com/Other/My-Unlisted/15204678_4t5kF

I choose the name my-unlisted, not smugmug.

You can control whether or not Google can find your gallery
