Pelican Memory Card Cases

OK, I got one for Christmas. It stores 4 CFs. I also have SDs. I looked on Pelican's site to see if I could buy a SD tray to put in the case... then it would hold two CFs and two SDs. They don't say you can, but the interior dimensions of their SD case and their CF case are the same. Does anyone have these and do you think you can do that? My guess in yes. But I don't want to have to buy a whole separate case...

Unfortunately I can't help you there. I saw Pelican and thought "Case" not CF case.. Those things are way too small. I ended up with a thinktank, holds 10 CF cards and rolls up. That still isn't enough room for all my cards, I do beleive I'll be gifting some of my older cards away to some needy, broke photographers. lol.

Sorry, OT there.. I would think they would sell a different insert, just like their cases? OK, Looking at pics on B&H I think you need a seperate case, they are different sizes when you go to SD's.

So they probably don't offer an insert for the CF version to hold SD's. Is there that much of a problem carrying 2 cases?

Or.. Sorry. Back to ThinkTank. I have the Pixel Pocket Rocket... Just looked, they have a new one. Pee Wee Pixel Pocket Rocket. $13.50, holds 4 - CF + 3 SD (and bonus it holds business cards too!)

This is the one I have..

I end up just putting my SD's (for my Zoom H4N) in the business card holder.. or slide them in with a CF card. Not the perfect solution.. but for me it works.

    Just a thought. :D

You mean "small" as in carrying only 4 CFs? OK, but it is waterproof. That's why, I think, so you just keep you 4 most valuable cards in there ;~)

I don't really mind carrying two cases. But I don't really feel like spending an extra $25 to get another case along with 4 inserts. My guess is that they fit, but still...

The one I got came with a generic insert for anything. I know that I could put plain ol' SD cards in there, I wonder if they and their plastic cases would fit in there...

For what it's worth a week later...

I have four assorted CF and SD pelican cases that I use for rafting the Grand Canyon (3 trips so far). The rubber inserts are identically sized and easily removable. They grip the cards quite well. If you don't mind them being loose, you can actually stick 6 CF cards in that case and many, many SD cards in their case.

One word of caution. I have had the hinge on one of mine break. This is not the normal Pelican Case sort of plastic. Not that they haven't taken their fair share of abuse, but I always keep them inside another waterproof bag just in case.

Also I am wildly paranoid about losing the 14 days of photos.

If you take the rubber inserts out, you can fit tons of CFs in there, it seems like (but I don't have tons of CFs to try it).

BTW, I just ordered custom inserts for mine off fleaBay. I got platinum style with 3 CF spots and 1 SD spot. It came with a free custom engraved nameplate for the outside, which you can also buy separately (goes in the middle of the back of the case). If you're interested, here's the link.

Question: if yours are like mine, 4 CF inserts fit in a case. My question is, how many SD inserts can you fit in there? My guess would be 4, with 2 SD slots in each insert.
