It is 1.6 miles to the top of the volcano and the base is closer. This is the Arenal volcano in Northern Costa Rica. The shot was taken from my front porch.

Where are you with respect to the Motel which is an old Observatory for the Volcano. I was there years ago.

Loved going to the Hot Springs resort on the flip side of the Volcano!

Nice shot. The night ones are usually more dramatic, with more glow, aren't they?

Nice shot with great details in the ash cloud. Anything closer? I wonder what details you could bring out with a tighter crop.

Oh so envious. Was recently at Arenal hoping to capture it erupt, but no cooperation from that stunning mountain (a beautiful and graceful peak regardless). It must be an impressive sight to see it afire. Great capture.

    You Asked For It
Here is a night shot from the front porch. Our house is on the property of the Observatory Lodge, surrounded by the national park. There are lots more volcano shots in the critterimages galleries on SmugMug.

I know this isn't Hawaii, but that looks like Pele crying molten tears!

The nighttime shot is lovely! I'd been jumping in the car and fleeing if I saw that from my back porch...
