This might not be the best Kingfisher photo ever, but I figure it puts us in the club of kingfisher photographers. I was driving up the causeway from Sullivan's Island at low tide, figured there would be no birds and I had really blown the time frame. Actually, I had, it was mid day, but that is when I could do this.

I am driving along, kinda looking, and I saw this bird on the wires. Ah, HAH, I thought to myself that is a Kingfisher, I turned around asap, came back, pulled over and sure enough, I had me a kingfisher. Kinda small, not an exotic stump, but the neighborhood is good. Gotta count for something.

I have more if you all want them. Uh, it only looks like he is centered, he is as the book I have suggests for a composition. His eye is centered, or a little back, that puts more in front than in back, the book said it is good. Who knows, looks good to me.

ginger (all on a wire, he tried to catch a fish, moved, then he flew away, eventually)
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

Nice job Ginger. They may not be award winning shots but for these birds I think this is the best you can get. I swear they some kind of innate picture blurring abilityumph.gif.

Thanks, Al, Nick, Trish and Ben. I have hoped to find more raptors, maybe an eagle, when with a group, an owl perhaps, but I never dreamed of seeing a Kingfisher. I recognized that little devil right off. Very distinctive profile.

I was ecstatic. I went ahead and took my usual 400 other photos, smile. I don't know what to do with them. They aren't bad. I hate to erase them, and I hate to work them up. When I looked lots of birds were actually out foraging at low tide.

I think there was an injured Wood Stork, another Stork arrived. They did not consult with me. No one was close, kept their distance as usual. At least one kind of bird I have never posted, like a big sandpiper, pretty wings, I should at least work that one up.

Lots of Snowys, that was nice right there. Then again, they were not as close as they were in the spring when thoughts turned to love at Magnolia, or in the late spring and summer when they were stuck on a nest.

Interesting, I read an expensive SC wildlife book, there was a parent and baby Great Egrets, the photographer called them Snowys, gave a history and all, of Snowys. They weren't Snowys. I did a double take.

ginger (I love the dots on the Kingfisher's tail, he is a male bird)

Good captures Ginger of a very difficult subject. These guys are extremely difficult to get close to.

These are great Ginger.I have only shot one and it was so far away that even at 500mm its just a tiny dot in the pic.The way I see it is if one can capture a good eyeball on the bird then you have the shot.Your shot clearly shows this.Good job...icethumb.gifthumb.gif
    I took a picture once
but they made me give it back.
