These birds are normally resident in the far north of Europe. They are not regular long distance migrants but some venture south and west in search of food when their stocks of berries run out. We find them on occasion in the Eastern most counties of the UK.
This year there has been a significant influx of these birds and they are venturing further west and south than is normal. A flock of about 70 birds have taken up temporary residence in Havant (South Central England). This has proved to be a bonanza for local birders, something akin to the gold-rush I guess:D.
I managed to get my own images, some of which I shall share with you on this thread, although the day was dull with low cloud and no sun. The lighting conditions forced me to use ISO 800 for the most part as these birds rarely stayed in one place for long.
Enough of the preamble.

Thanks Chuck. My first time seeing these birds:D
Thanks mattr888. Oops, so it is. Happy New Year. The watermark is still valid though as it represents the shooting date:D.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for replying. I had not appreciated the beauty of these birds until I saw them first-hand. Somehow they look as though they belong to the tropics and not to the northern latitudes. A real thrill to see.
