In February 2010, the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace made a stop here at a tiny Vietnamese Monastery in Escondido, CA on it's world tour. The exhibit was open 24/7 and my first visit was in midday sun. I was so taken by the whole experience (and watching the throngs that were there to visit) that I decided to come back later for better light. Below is the last picture of the day.

FWIW... this picture is completely responsible for my introduction to SmugMug, and by association, Digital Grin. At the time I took it, I was frequenting a local online photo forum (now in 404 heaven) that did monthly contests. I submitted this, won the public vote and was awarded a year's SmugMug account.

Not sure whether this is a perfect fit for Street and PJ, but it is a candid shot taken in a public setting... caught the subject in a moment of reflection. I'd appreciate any feedback, as the whole idea of street shooting is really intriguing (and quite a bit out of my comfort zone).

I recently bought a used OM-1 and a load of Tri-X for the express purpose of encouraging me get out on the street. We'll see what that brings. I've not processed the first roll yet.

This is a beautiful shot (and fits in this forum). I can understand why you won the popular vote.

Beautiful framing/exposure. Not sure if it would have benefited from burning in his face ever so slightly -- I say this because if I move slightly back from my monitor, he fades from my attention quite quickly.

Yeah, I'm with you about the need for burning the face. But... it's high ISO and burned about as far as it can go without getting REALLY noisy. I guess I've learned a few things about post-processing since this shot. I might try another run at ACR. Maybe I could do some good with a single exposure HDR?

I wouldn't touch the face--it works fine as is for me. Well done, Bill thumb.gif.

I agree with Richard, it works perfectly as is. I imagine this image was captured very similar to the way it actually appeared. Yes the man's face disappears in relation to the warm brightness he's looking at, and if I were to walk into that room illuminated faces would be secondary there to. I think this is a perfect capture really.

Very lovely shot and the face is fine to me as well. Love the reflective mood you've captured so well. Don't be a stranger here.

I find it - Simply Beautiful!
We are separated by our cultures and many other events in our life. This arrangement obviously means something to the subject. This picture conveys this very well. A moment telling a story.

    Great Capture:thumb.gif
