the average mortal wouldn't think of doing an ironman triathlon after getting hit by a truck while bicycling but then again, baldy's no mere mortal
best of luck to you, baldy!
here's some pics from last year's baldy ironman

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

...And keep going until you win that thing, Baldy!
I guess ya can knock the guy down (accident), but ya can't keep him down.
I hope I can still do what you're doing when I'm real old and 51 years old too. Come to think of it, I can't do that now, or ever before when I was a younger man.
We'll all be waiting to see the pictures of you with that 1st place trophy.
EDIT: Hey, what's this? I looked at the event results from 2004, and it looks like Andy took 11th place in the 35-39 age group. You racing this year again, Andy?

Good luck Baldy and watch out for those trucks this time :uhoh

Today in CA during the annual iron man event, a man was held for questioning after stopping in mid race & assulting a local truck driver. He was pulled from the drivers cabin by police screaming "DO YA SEE ME NOW CLOWN !!"

I have a hard enough time sleeping for 12 hours, (I usually need to wake up and take a nap) much less be in constant movement via running, biking, and swimming.
My hat's off to you baldy. Great job.

That's a great combined time! Congrats on your performance at that event.

For the curious, here's how it panned out:
In the emergency room: The doctors and my family told me, "absolutely not. Get the IronMan out of your head. It's not happening."
But being a nut case, I posted here a day later, "don't count me out for the IronMan. Overcoming adversity is my specialty." And I turned into the best patient ever: ice, movement, ointments, sleep, whatever it took, I wanted it bad.
The weeks after: Couldn't swim for 2 weeks, couldn't bike on the roads, limited running... So I bought a bike trainer, put it in the garage and biked all I could.
Race day: I noticed every little thing and loved them all: the adorable girl scouts at the aide stations, my family being there meant more, leaves in the trees... I'm alive!
Swim: Ow. The swim cap put pressure on my fractured skull. But I swore I'd stay positive and enjoy the good fortune of being there.
Bike: My heart rate monitor stopped working, the backup stopped working, my sunglass lens flew off and I had to go back and find it, a handlebar broke and I had to find a bike mechanic to fix it. Those things would have seriously messed with my head last year, but this year? Just happy to be there.
Run: After 6 miles my stomach stopped digesting everything I tried to down... That could be seriously bad news. I confessed to my cheering section that I felt bad and things could go downhill fast.
But I stuck to the mantra of Andre Agassi: "Keep fighting. Maybe something good happens." I tried Coke. It worked! So I just kept pouring Coke down the gut the next 18 miles and started feeling better. My bike was kinda stinky but the run was top 25 and saved the day.
Whatever the time, this pic made the day for me. I owe my family a ton for putting up with this and nursing me back to health when I couldn't walk in a straight line 3 weeks ago.
