Quality Loss

I noticed the quality level while viewing my images on Smugmug is lower than I'd like. I downloaded the image to see that the quality is there, it just displays lower.

I have the largest size viewable as 2XL, that is because I don't want the resolution any higher, but I would like the quality to be high.

Notice in this image the artifacting in the background.

We take this very seriously - and save at a really high level of jpg quality for our display copies. Where, precisely do you see artifacting? Can you show a screenshot with arrows?

On SmugMug, when the owner makes exif available, clicking the Blue i gets you the exif.

Ok, its hard to see but it is bothering me. It show where the green goes a little bit lighter.

As I do more testing it looks like its displaying the photo in sRGB. When I export a large jpeg as PRO RGB I don't see the artifacting.


PS - This seems to explain the difference in sRGB and PRO RGB as displayed... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/763055

In case you didn't realize, Smugmug is all sRGB. You should only be uploading sRGB to Smugmug. There are many reasons for this, but the main ones are that's what Smugmug's printers accept and many browsers (like all versions of IE) do a horrible job displaying things other than sRGB (because they aren't color-managed). When you upload something other than sRGB, I think Smugmug auto-converts it to sRGB.

Yep, sRGB is the Color Space we use on the web (and indeed, as do most sites).

In my LR3 smugmug plugin, it doesn't show that it is converting it to sRGB. I'm assuming it is taking the original file and converting it for me for the various outputs smugmug wants.
