Short-eared Owl

Short-eared Owl at 160 yards. 7D 500L+2x crop. Not much chance to get
closer, lucky to get this. A rare siting around here, hope they are
coming back and he brings a female back with him. :D

    Wow, Allen, it might have been shot at a distance, but you sure caught just the right moment! Very lucky siting!

    Thanks Joe, it was at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary across the
    Mississippi from Alton Illinois. This is the first one of these I've seen on this
    side of the state. Another was spotted 20 minutes south of here so hopefully
    more will take up winter residence around here.

    Thanks Pam, unfortunately I get lots of practice at long shots, seems all
    the good birds are at least 200 yards out in the bay.

    Love the video mode of the 7D. Full frame at 160 yds.

    It's almost impossible to avoid camera shake with a long lens starting and stopping the video.
