Here are a few things I put together from the 2010 sports seasons... I think I've come a long way with these since last year... They are so fun to make, I hope I can just keep getting better at it.

Love the first five. the facial expressions on the last two would keep me from purchasing if they were my children. I realize they make these faces when they play and if they weren't the main photo in the poster I wouldln't be bothered by it as much. Really nice work though. I am sure the athletes love them. Keep us posted on how well your sales go.

I think you did an incredible job! bowdown.gif
I wish I could produce half of that.
    What programs are you using?

Those must take a lot of patience along with skill. The colour and b&w work well together. Is this something that you must create from scratch, or are there templates or programs that can be employed?

Thank you for the kind comments. These are all created custom in photoshop, lots of layers. They usually take anywhere from 10-25 minutes to create. I do credit a good portion of my sales to them.

Great job! "10-25 minutes to create" . . . it would take me around 10 hours to create what you do.

They are all quite good. I am trying to get into doing some little league stuff and am interested in your techniques. Maybe you could give some pointers if possible, I sure would be grateful.

    X2!!

I'm looking at them trying to figure out how to integrate them into competitive cheerleading.

    Wanna do any contract work?

I know I'm nobody here, but can I make a suggestions on not using the "Bleeding Cowboy" font that you use in #1? It's one of the most over used grunge fonts around.

Other than that, I think your posters look great and are very creative.

Great work, I would love to be able to do anything half as good as these. How on earth can you punch one out in 10-25 mins, as was said earlier I would be looking at hours and still not as good?!

I'm here to learn so please feel free to give me constructive criticism to help me become the photographer I desire to be.

Fantastic stuff! Now THAT is offering a product that mom & dad can't do on their own. Heck, a lot of us sports shooters can't do that - myself included. Very good stuff!

    Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback (I do agree on the bleeding cowboy font, I don't use it often, but it fit well into the design).

If anyone is interested in the work I can give you some more specific info on your inquiries if you send me a private message.

I have yet to figure out a good way to put these together for other photographers... I'd sell the photoshop files, but then you'd have to be able to do all the color alterations and find images that fit into the open spaces, since they are all pretty much custom done. I'd be happy to arrange a way to put together designs using your images and then sell you the digital download for something around $6 and then you would be able to resell with your own markup... if anyone has better ideas or would like to try to work with me on this, just send me a message.

Here are a few more I've done recently...

There's lots more on my personal site. I feel like the more I do the better and quicker I get. It seems to be a lot about layers and overlapping that creates all the dimension. Typically I find a nice headshot and a good action shot to work together and just create interesting patterns with PS brushes and overlays.

*It's also awesome to hear some nice feedback from a SportsShooter :)

This was a collage I did for the back of this seniors grad announcement. I made it into a poster and it turned out pretty cool. He loved it.

@Prairiemaiden - did you take the posed football image used in it? I love it. I really like the incorporation of the helmet shot too!

+1 on offering a product that they cant do themselves or the local competition doesnt offer. I havent tried posters but do get more sales from photo collages framed and priced at a premium than prints of single images. This realization changed my entire approach on shooting youth sports. Before I was like may others who show up and take a bazillion shots of every kid on the field the uploading the images with a web address for them to purchase. Now I set up camp with a table to show samples and interested parties book an appointment giving me their childs game time and field and I concentrate on 1 kid to get several great shots of one subject instead of 500 mediocre shots of all of them (deposit required at booking). In the end yeilds 10X profits for 10x less time invested. The 10 hour days of shootinng followed by endless hours of post process then upload to yeild little to no sales are over.thumb.gif

@JustinThyme - Do you set up at tournaments and go shoot the games from there or are you just setting up when you can, where you can, and booking future dates? It sounds like a great way of really honing in on your market.

Chasky, I set up at the tournaments. With so many coming from all over it would be tough to get out to the masses otherwise. It has made a HUGE difference. Far less time involved for a far larger profit margin. I have been chastized by other photograhers for charging a deposit but it works for me. If I didnt I have a feeling I would be right back at it shooting a bazillion kids and spending countless hours at PP to get nothing from it and also loose the edge on getting awesome shots of just one kid. There has been a few exceptions that I refunded part of the deposit, only because the booked kid never got off the bench. I wont let them off the hook for the entire deposit because it still took up my time that could have been spent shooting someone else. Its a rare ocassion though.

@Chasky - You totally inspired me to finally do something with a couple of my son's football pictures. I hate to straight up copy your idea....but you know how the saying goes..."Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". You have done some great work with your shots...thanks again for the inspiration. Been with SmugMug for quite some time, but new to the forum...first post actually. Greg

@ G.Rowe - Looks awesome! Great portrait shot and action shot to fit together. My only suggestion would be to clone the grass from the action shot all the way over to the portrait shot/even all the way across the entire bottom so it doesn't look like it's floating in the corner :)
