A friend asked me if the Canon S95 is capable to save a frame of a movie as a jpg.

Any idea? Nothing in the manual.

The camera can't by itself. That capability would lie in movie making software.

Exactly! And then count on that frame/jpg being pretty small.

to get a decent imager from a single frame of a movies is neigh on impossible....but if all the frames that comprise that image are stacked it could be decent.

Small is relative, depending on what it's for. The S95 can do video at 1280x720 HD. That's bigger than you need for email, and bigger than Facebook standard resolution. It's enough for a 4x6 print at 180dpi. The real issue is whether the image looks good and isn't blurry from compression and movement...

On my Mac, I've had a video running, pressed the 3 keys that I need to press for a screen capture, and have been able to get an image out of it.
As others said, it depends on what you want to use if for.

From My Cousin Vinny while running on my MacBook though Netflex at Full Screen size.
I think you could get a 4X6 out of a vid in 720 HiDef.

A little clean up, and you could get a small photo out of it.
