Sand Cars
Spent New Years out in the Imperial Sand Dunes and took a few shots of the cars that were with us. Didn't get a chance to do a full on shoot because the cars kept breaking.

Thanks Natalie- it is definitely fun and there are areas where even the trucks could run a few dunes. We didn't even make it to the drags or where the high dollar cars run due to the weather and constantly working on cars.
The Nissan engine is from a 300Z twin turbo but this one is only running one turbo. Car will do 50mph through 2-3 ft deep whoops and pulls wheelies with ease. He blew a water pump.
The yellow and green car is running a Cadillac Northstar V6. Sheared the bolts that hold axle to transmission.
The other car pictured is running a Subaru 2.0- blew 2 CV joints
Here are the other cars that were in our group:
Two seater running a Buick V6- no problems on the trip
Next to that a home built 4 seater running a Buick V6- blew a tire- ripped the cord- then blew a tube that we put in the tire- put on radials and started over heating
Hyabusa powered 4 seater- blew something in the transmission and the gear drive- both are locked up.
My sister and brother in-laws home built Chevy 350 V8 car. Carb issues- going to need a new throttle body and rebuild or replace the carb
Hyabusa powered 2 seater- no problems on this trip but will have to replace the chain. He usually snaps two on a three day weekend.
White car is powered by a Toyota 22R engine. Had to rebuild a front hub
Car behind that is a 4 seater powered by a Cadillac Northstar V6. Had to replace the lower control arm

Nice shots Aaron & good story.
I'm liking #4.
Where are the Imperial dunes? Have you been to Dumont dunes?
I'll let you know next time. Just have to hope there are seats available. I bounced from car to car. I think when they see the shots though I will get an invite back.
Maybe you get one of these cars.

Thanks torags.
Imperial are the dunes along the California, Arizona, and Mexican border near Yuma AZ. We literally camped 100 yards from the U.S. Mexico border and the famous fence.
I have driven by Dumont but have never stopped there. I don't have a car of my own - though after this trip I admit it would very fun to have one.

We are there every holiday through winter near "plank road" just past Midway not far from the big trees (always close to the same spot) my husband has a buggy - green purple yellow black flys an Arizona wildcat flag - I could swear I saw one or two of your buggies out and about.
It is never to late to become what you might have been.

Yeap- we were just down a little farther from the big trees and drove past "plank road" several times.
It was my first trip but won't be the last.
