Very nice composition, with good facial exposure and aerial timing. I can tell that the venue is challenging because the walls are very bright and effectively backlight the subjects. I might suggest bringing up the exposure a smidge, so that the players are properly exposed, at the risking of over-exposing the background.

You are definitely right about the venue. Sadly, this is one of the better gyms I get to shoot at right now. The one I shot last week was much worse, ISO 10,000 but severe spotlighting and "holes" in the light + really bad color cycling. Haven't processed those yet because I'm dreading it...
Appreciate the feedback. I'll keep an eye on face exposures.
Only thing I don't like is the weird crops, like #6. Crop with a more normal aspect ratio??
I used to stick with normal print aspect ratios, but based on comments I've seen on various boards, a lot of folks don't bother with that anymore - just depends on who/what you are shooting for. For web/media, it doesn't seem to matter much, so I've loosened up on that.
That said, I probably pushed it too far on #6 and should have canned that one.

Hey Rolette, cropping seems to be a very personal matter. Aside from the practicalities of framing a print, you should really go with what works for your eye. I am all into context of a shot, which often means capturing interesting background or some other aspect of the picture that is not the principal subject, but it some ways accentuates something about the subject.
Here are a couple of examples that often get criticized for not being cropped correctly. In the first shot, I love the sense of isolation that the black and green background give to the two soccer players. A tighter crop is nice, but I think the unique moment between the two players is lost.
In the second shot, the surfer is not doing anything particularly spectacular, but the breaking wave behind makes him a far more interesting subject in my opinion.

Unfortunately, gyms are notoriously difficult to shoot in. I feel for you.

Ninja death grips aren't legal in MS basketball?
I like that crop on the surfing picture!
