Trying out this blog thing...

I decided that starting in 2011 I was going to create a blog.
http://simpsonbrothers.blogspot.com/
The idea is to give my customers a little bit of background in to what it takes to do the shot (all of them ask surprisingly).
I figure it will also be a good way to keep people up to date on new images.

What do you think so far? (only 2 posts)

I just started in July of last year myself... If you stick with it, you'll see how addicting it becomes :)

I like your first posts. Nothing like a step back to show people what happens behind the scenes.
(as opposed to my own blog which is kinda more of a pictures speak for themselves, let me get my text out of the way...)

Everyone's different though and I like it!!!

It looks like you have a good start with your blog.

    A couple of comments though:
    • I find it difficult to read the bright blue of your links against a black background. I would recommend changing the color of those links. The hover color is fine, it's the default in text color that's not.
    • Clicking on a photo in your blog does bring the photo up on a page from your smug site. Have you thought about bringing up the lightbox view of the photo so the viewer can easily jump into the full gallery?
    • It would be nice to have a link from your blog to your smug site and from your smug site to your blog.

Done! After looking at the new version, I strongly agree!

Done! Again, great idea! Thank you!

    Done and done!

Thank you very much for your advice!

You're very welcome, and your improvements look good.

One more thought - a link to your photo galleries from your blog sidebar might be easier for some folks to see. That could be instead or in addition to the link you've added at the end of your posts.

    The site looks good.

I also like the clear intention to help your customers understand how you do what you do.

Not sure if you really address this in your first posts, but then I don't know your customers. Gives me a "pot-luck" impression. One minute you are selling me a calendar, next you are discovering a hidden gem, and then you are talking about your children and how they like lego.

The general impact is that you care about what you do, and that is a good thing. My only advice would be to think carefully about the content and the messages you really want to convey.

Just had a look at your blog site too. Linked to my blog site (and feel free to reciprocate :Dhttp://www.imagesbyceci.blogspot.com/) and then tried to post a comment (I was signed in to Blogger) but it wouldn't let me ne_nau.gif

If you don't want people to leave comments, you should probably remove that capacity completely - or change your settings so people can leave comments.
