Ok so I never would have posted these before, but seeing B.D.s last post--well I had to give it a go. I was at a full stop, at a stop light on the first and double parked on the second. I like them. Any thoughts?

#1 sort of made me laugh....
If you were trying to capture the guy proposing on bended knee to the girl who looks like she's having one of those "not now" moments, and the guy with the perfectly aligned lamp post providing him some 'antennae', I think you did a grand job! rolleyes1.gif

#2 (....and continuing with my observations) also made me laugh.
All I could think of was "Does this bicycle seat pillow make my butt look fat".

Seriously now, the colors are bright which adds to what I saw as simply whimsical snapshots.

I like the first better. It has some interest to try to figure out what/who is attracting her attention. The guy with the guitar is a late realization (good). Ultimately it is unsatisfying as no connection is established between the two guys and her gaze.

Also a little too much saturation for me as easily noticed if you look at the red if the taillight or her sleeve.

I feel like I'm looking through blue sunglasses.. what happened to the color balance?

The balloons are nice, but the color is atrocious.

I did hesitate to post these for a few months :)
But the main reason was that they were taken from the inside the comfort of my car and it was a quick shot, no multiple attempts at all.
I like the first shot because it doesn't look real to me, almost like a scene from a movie.
The second shot I loved because, it's amazing what parents will do for their kids. I complain about having to get balloons for my kids on their birthday with my car.

BUt I can see I missed in conveying what I wanted.
    Thank you for the comment.

Rainbow--you know I love the color like this. I try to hold back that monster that makes me want to overprocess but every once in a while it has to be set free.

I think the young kids in the first shot were musicians, they had guitars on their backs. The one bending down was tying his shoe--but I like the two black men walking by in suits--the scene just felt surreal to me.

I will still say I like them a whole lot--but yes I know they dont' work for others.

street--ah well I kind of knew it had to be you from your first post.

I was not going for color balance. I honestly was using a heavy hand because I liked the look of it. I knew I'd get nailed for posting a shot taken not only from the car but also with this kind of processing--kind of going for broke I guess.

At one of Jay Maisel's workshops, he recommended "shooting through glass" for lots of street work.

Through store windows, car windows, bus windows.

One of his favorite spots to shoot from was inside a glass telephone booth, but these have largely disappeared nowadays.

I see the connection between the young girls and the two gentlemen in their suits. Why not crop just above the gentlemen's heads, and lose the right hand part of the frame of the mailboxes as well. Hone in on the girl's face and the two black gentlemen?

    Thank you for the suggestion.
I will grugingly crop:) I really am trying to get better at this. It seems my eye always goes for lots of extra space off to one side, but it doesn't seem to work for others.
I can't crop til later though because I can't access smugmug here.
Thanks for commenting. I will have to look into Jay Maisel as well, thanks for the share.

Arrrrrrrg! What have I started?! rolleyes1.gif

Both of these make me nuts - for two reasons. First, the atrocious colormwink.gif; second, each situation has such possibility that I wish you'd jumped from the moving car, looked, thought, framed, and shot. clap.gif As it is, these are sort of photographic guacamole - a bunch of elements jumbled together, mushed, and lumpy - but intriguing none the less. wings.gif

Arrrrrgh - the pirates' favorite letter. I have been listening the the Hoggeye Navvy again lately.

These look like cell phone shots, maybe.

I am with BD, that the color puts me off, but I know lots of folks kind of like the faded old positive film look.

There are some colors like that in Chase Jarvis's "The Best Camera is the One That's with You" all shot and editied with an iPhone. Photo guacamole, indeedrolleyes1.gif

Liz has approved my posting of the proposed crop above in B&W...

    thanks you:)

I wish I had sent you the original image, I think it would have made the conversion better.

I like the top portion of the crop but I want to see a little more on the bottom (then I remembered it would show too much of the dashboard).

Not worth saving I think. Too bad I wasn't on foot!

I do like the b&w much better than the color though.
    Thanks again.

I like the B&W much more. I'm not a fan of "vintage" color because I think color was just not very good back then. ne_nau.gif
