How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Harry, does a grebe really have a blue tongue? You didn't doctor it? I like them all, but that one and the second GBH, where there is so much detail, and the color of the bird contrasts so starkly against the green BG.

How often do you get a chance to see a grebe's tongue?

Give me a break. The holidays had me cooking for various events and then I had some health issues to deal with.

I would never mess around with a grebe's tongue. The color is really more of a grey slate than blue. I checked the RAW file and that's pretty much the color. I did boost the contrast in my post work.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Like them all, really like the second GBH.

Is the first GBH showing off or flashing the photographer? Thinking about it, I guess flashing would be showing off.

Hope you finally have a chance to relax now.

Nice series Harry. Vieara always seems to provide you with plenty of action. I'm curious who (or what) that GBH was flashing ? Keep warm and keep 'em coming.

    nice set, harry!

in regards to the flashing GBH, i understand that this is a way for the bird to get rid of parasites. lice maybe?

My readings on the GBH's behavior indicate that they do the flashing number to warm up on cooler days, which this day was.

Thanks very much. I wasn't expecting much when I started to photograph the grebe but the BG, the colors of the water reflections and that tongue really worked out well.
