A few from the streets of Manila

Last time I posted her in this forum, you guys gave me really good advice about shooting Street and also posting. You said Street Photography is about capturing images that tell the stories of the streets, which is what I tried to do during my recent trip to the Philippines. The other thing you said was to limit each post to just a few so I will limit this post to just a few... I have tons to share though.

BTW, due to an unfortunate accident on the 3rd of my trip, I was forced to shoot everything with a 16mm ultra wide angle lens on a D700 FF camera. Very challenging... talk about getting intimate with your subject. A no hiding your shooting someone with a WA.

Well... hope you guys enjoy these as much as I enjoyed taking them.

I too like #1 - the older I become, the more I see the innocence in all children who are truly at the mercy of their parents and environment.

Can you explain the buggy in #3 on left and why it's sitting on what appears to be a little concrete footing. I can't figure out why that might be. headscratch.gif but it sure looks hard to ride it there without falling off.

The "buggy" is the rear end of another tricycle, like the other two in the photo. That rear platform is designed to hold packages. However, it wasn't unusual to see people sitting and standing on that platform because there was not room inside. Also, if you look at the other two tricycles, notice what looks like arm rests to either side of the bench. Well, they aren't really arm rests. Those are additional seats. Passenger sit on those with legs hanging to the side. headscratch.gif

Yes, that I can understand and thank you. But what is the concrete footing the rightside tire/wheel is sitting on? It's about 8" tall, 4" wide. Is the bicycle portion on the left side of the buggy also riding on a little concrete footing? Is the footing simply a drain barrier to the street? It just looks difficult to ride the buggy keeping the right wheel/tire on that little strip of concrete without falling off.

OH... I get your question now. Sorry.

Yes, what you're looking at a simply a drain, like a small "culvert". They don't actually drive straddling it. I think the photo may be misleading you. That buggy was parked there. I was standing on the sidewalk as these guys each competed for my fare. I decided it was a good op for a photo. BTW, I didn't take the ride from either dude.
