Macro warfare

Was greeted with one of the oddest sites I've seen doing macrophotography yesterday, when I tried photographing what I thought were fairly high concentrations of tiny springtails around the rim of one of my compost bins. Turned out they were springtails (Proisotoma minuta all less than 1mm long) but what they were feeding on seemed to be eating them instead. Think they were trying to feed on slimemould plasmodia which turned round and started engulfing them instead and indeed seemed to be winning the war.
All shots taken at 5:1 with some crude focus stacking.
