nd fader filter [ nd2 - nd400 ] from light craft workshop, i have been thinking of getting one .
just wondering if there are any problems using it?

seems a good idea being able to alter from 1 stop to 8 by twisting the outer ring.
not sure if will be possible to use cokin nd grad and poloriser on front also , 17-40 L lens

No idea on that particular version but similar variable ND filters are said to have significant color tinting at the darkest gradations.

What camera(s) do you use the EF 17-40mm, f4L USM on? Crop cameras are much less sensitive to filter stacking and vignetting.

    Hi Guys,

you could always make your own adjustable nd filter. If you use a linear polariser, and stack a circular polariser on top of it, then when you rotate the circular polariser against the linear you get the same effect. Any colour shift can be sorted out in photoshop or whatever pp you use.

I know that autofocus systems do not get on with a linear polariser, so you might have to focus first, switch over to manual focusing so as to maintain your focus point then screw in the filters and rotate the circular polariser until you achieve what you want
