Animal rights demonstration

Last month, animal rights activists staged a demonstration in Madrid's Puerta del Sol, which is kind of like Times Square here. If you are at all squeamish, you might want to hit the back button on your browser right now.
About 100 people stood in silent formation, each holding a dead animal. There were chickens, pigs, foxes, cats and others that I couldn't make out. It had more the feeling of a vigil than a demonstration--there were no speakers or placards, though a few activists were handing out pamphlets.

I was surprised at how few people stopped to watch them. I'm not sure whether that shows they failed to make their point, or made it all too well. Dunno. I think it's going to be quite a long time before Spaniards stop eating meat. Still, they did score a victory the other day when the state-run television network announced that it would no longer broadcast live bullfights.

For me, #2 and #4 stand out the most as their facial expressions combined with being a solo/almost solo individuals each with an animal are the strongest. I do understand part of the shirt "...for the animals", so had those been stand alone I would have figured out the context.
Si Senior. Mucho gracias.
The two I would imagine shooting would be the second with an ultra wide (like a 5D/17-40?) and the third or fourth with a much longer lens to get more perspective compression. Really like the formation capture in the first.
I am not sure I really understand what they are saying. Are they against eating animals, or totally against using animal products of any kind? Or do they favor equal legal rights for animals? They sure do look serious, or unhappy.
How many had leather shoes on? Or leather belts? Were you able to tell?
Your comment about the fact that this demonstration was in Spain, home of bullfighting is interesting, I agree.
Was there anywhere about in the buildings where you could shoot from above the first floor, to capture the geometric patterns of the demonstration?

the first and second really start the emotion for me, then it flattens. Great subject and set though, thankyou.

Nicely done, Richard. I particularly like the first image - good vantage point.

What I really could have used was a step-ladder to get the whole formation, but I am reluctant to even carry a tripod . I did try some holding the camera over my head shots, but I guess I'm just not tall enough because none of them worked very well.
Jim: There are many different factions to the animal rights movement and I confess that I don't exactly know what the agenda of this particular group is. I didn't pay too much attention to their shoes, but reviewing the shots I kept it looks like the vast majority were wearing sneakers of some sort.
I was a little gratified to see that the press coverage of the event featured pics that were really very similar to mine. Including at least one that must have been shot from a ladder. Oh well.
