Why did Google find my gallery?

Please advise. I have a password protected public gallery with these settings. I understood setting Hello World, Hello Smuggers, Ext Links to NO would prevent Google from finding/posting.

Not so. Google shows the following...

Will appreciate info on how to avoid Google searches from finding gallery. Thanks.

What Google found was a public sub-category page (which contains a link to the password protected gallery page). I honestly don't know if Smugmug allows you to prevent Google indexing of public sub-category pages unless you turn off all Google indexing for your site. I rather doubt they support that because there is no category settings page where you could specify that. Turning off indexing for the gallery, doesn't affect the category.

If the gallery was unlisted and the category contained only unlisted galleries, then the category wouldn't be public and Google wouldn't have found it unless you or someone else posted a link to it somewhere on the internet.

Thanks, John. If Sharegroup is used, then all galleries selected for the Sharegroup are made 'unlisted', right. Adding a SG password would enhance security. Basically, I am just wanting to keep 'unprocessed' images from the general internet public but still allow family/friends to access. Comments?

Sharegroup is essentially an unlisted category. You would still have to make the gallery unlisted to keep the category from showing to the public.
