Spanish moss is mostly a southeastern phenomenon. I was told it was a parasite, however, I looked it up out of curiosity, and it does take nutrients from the tree but the damage comes from blocking the sun to the leaves, and the extra weight, which breaks branches.
Its not unusual to see smaller birds harassing raptors. Good images.
