Gas Works Park

I spent an hour in Gas Works Park in Seattle last weekend, and enjoyed the scenery in the grizzly weather.

The path up on the mound looked so intriguing, and when the person in this shot stood up on the top alone only accompanied by the Space Needle, I just had to push the trigger. :D

Looking the other direction, the old gas factory structure provided a few intriguing subjects too. I particularly liked these two fans, supposedly part of the cooling subsystem.

Love the first shot. Nice of the guy at the top to stand up at the right moment... :)

I like both, but am not fond of whatever processing you did. They look way too cooked.

Both are three-exposure HDR shots. I am trying to keep away from the "HDR look", so I especially like THAT feedback. :-)

Both are good shots, tastefully done hdr. Superb composition on the first one.

I think you did pretty well with the HDR process, the first image I would back off the structure setting just a bit so it is not so crunchy and there appear to be a bit of haloing along the ridgetop, which could be corrected easily by a manual hand blend selectively painted....its very close now and I'm being very picky with my comment so nice job.

i agree these look just a bit overdone. the ridgetop in the first one looks unnaturally dark, and there's a bit of halo, though it doesn't go all the way across, so it might be natural. the grass looks a bit oversharpened.the second needs the saturation backed off a notch or two, and a bit of blur added - it seems a touch oversharpened to me, and in that kind of weather, things seldom have that bright, hard-edged look. Gasworks is a neat place to shoot from, some really cool "urban decay" kinds of shots as well as nice skyline images, storm clouds over Seattle, etc...

I really like both of these images, but #1 is great with the path leading us up to the top with the person standing there, enjoying the view of the Space Needle. Well done.

I like how the first shot is composed but they are WAY over-cooked, especially the second one.

I uploaded one of the exposures that was the basis for the first HDR image.

I like the idea of both of them.

#2 the colour could play a bigger part I think, and I'd like to see it cropped in tighter.

#1 a classic surreal-flavoured modernist style image. I envy the capture and the location. I think it needs a little more tweaking to make it speak more - colour and texture. But most I would like it to have much more headroom, even portrait orientation. As an experiment at least.

    Well done!

Hmm, need to try that next time I go there. I did play around with an even more horizontal crop. I haven't decided for myself whether I like that better or not, but I thought I'd toss it out there for thoughts. :-)

I like the first one a bunch. Those from Seattle actually know you can get real light like this some days.
