Hello,

I have a Canon 7d which has a built in wireless triggering system. It works great with my 580 ex II and my older 420 ex when I use E-TTL II mode.
When I switch to manual mode the 580 works perfect , but the 420 does not respond at all. Does anyone know if the 420 is capable of working in manual
mode?

Thanks

Page 42 and 43 of your manual for the 420ex describes using the 420ex in ETTL wireless mode. It makes no comment about an ability to be triggered in Manual mode by either the master flash on the camera, nor does it describe shooting with the 420ex in Manual Flash mode via EOS wireless function.

At the bottom of page 43, the manual says "If the master unit's flash mode is set to (manual flash) or ( stroboscopic flash ) the slave unit(s) will not fire. Be sure to set the master unit's flash setting to . "

I think that is your answer.

I think the 430ex will however, if I read its manual correctly..
