What was going to be a 48 hour business trip to NYC turned into very short 30 hour trip.

With the threat of another big snow storm coming to NYC I decided to get out of town and come home with fewer shots than I hoped for. With that in mind, here's a couple from my abbreviated trip.

"Cross the FDR to the East River and throw myself in" - Jeffrey Lewis

"Don't it feel like somebody's watching me" - Rockwell

"I want to Drive the Zamboni" - Gear Daddies

"Feels like the weight of the world, like all my screaming has gone unheard" - Evanescence

"(He's) just like you and me but (he's) homeless, (he's) homeless as (he)stands there singing for money" - Crystal Waters

"I'm taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line" - Billy Joel

"Imagined all the ones that ever stood here waitin', at Grand Central Station" - Mary Chapin Carpenter

"You dropped a bomb on me baby" - Gap Band

"Heaven looks at you from the Brooklyn Bridge
" - Frank Sinatra

"So New York City walk with me, talk gritty it's up to us New York it's our city" - Alicia Keys

"Mister, take us to the show" - Lynyrd Skynyrd

I particularly love the Grand Central shot. I've stood in that very spot many times and know that it is NOT easy to get a good crowd shot, and the guy running makes it work extra well. Excellent capture!

Actually, my stay in NYC was 30 hours. Total shooting time was probably 5 to 6 of those hours. With the use of the subways and buses you can cover a lot of ground in NYC.
    Great photos!

    Thank you.

Thank you. I love shooting in GCS. I tried a few experimental shots doing long exposures for the "ghost effect" before the police told me to put it away. :D

Great shot of the Brooklyn Bridge.

And when they ask you to put it away (which is rarer these days), ever notice how you end up complying and not get into some big 'civl liberties / photog rights' debate eek7.gif

still defies logic to me just how you can get to so many places and take time for great shots in such a short period of time - nice one! clap.gif

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of my favorite subjects in NY. Right now it is under construction thru 2014 so the iconic shot of the bridge with Manhattan in the background is really not available without the white tarp getting in the way.

I've never been that "civil liberties photog". I just say sorry I didn't know and move on. :D

Thanks Jason. In cities like Chicago and NY I use their buses and subways to cut down on the walking time as much as possible. But I really chalk it up to good planning, studying locations and putting a game plan in place. I'll have a list of 5 or 6 things I really want and treat it like a timed scavenger hunt.

Knowing where and how to get to the locations is key as well as knowing the right time of day for the shot. I went on a trip to LA a few years ago and missed out on some great ops becaused I didn't have a plan. I swore I'd never make that mistake again. :D

Good stuff, I like that you took the time to add the captions, which made a very nice series even better.

I still don't know how you do it! I think you get more amazing frames in a short trip than most people in a full week!

    Wonderful!
