First Bath

You guys love B&W over here. Messing with a BW conversion and adding some grain. How did I do on the processing?

    Nice conversion - nice shot, which is more to the point. But I'd skip the added noise, uh, grain. The problem with trying to pretend that black and white digital is black and white silver by adding noise is that doing so doesn't remove the build up of digital noise in the shadows. The attractive - to some of us - thing about grain in film is that it is uniform across the image, while noise is most decidedly not - it is most obvious in underexposed areas. So adding 'grain' just adds even more noise. ;-)

    I will do another version without the grain effect tonight to compare. Thanks for the input. I don't usually post in this section but you guys seem to be the masters of the BW conversions. It takes some practice!
