I'm trying to set up a simple off-camera lighting solution and I could use a little advice. I have an Olympus E-520 and the FL-50R flash for it.

I want to attach my flash to a light stand and use it with an umbrella. I know I need an umbrella holder with shoe adapter, an umbrella, a pc sync cord, and 2 hot shoe adapters (one for the flash and one for the camera).

Will any hot shoe adapter work with Olympus? That might be a dumb question to many, but I know that not everything 'off the shelf' will fit Olympus.

Below is a list of what I'm considering. I'd appreciate any suggestions or caveats that more experienced photographers can offer.

will any cheaper hot shoe adapter work?

One more set of dumb questions...
I also have an FL-36 olympus flash. Could I set up a second stand/umbrella for this one and use them both at the same time? Is that even a good idea?

What other accessories or equipment would I need for this (other than the light stand adapter and another umbrella of course)?

Thanks in advance.

Sherry I will look tomorrow at what I use. I have an e500 and two e3s. I use an fl50 and the r version. I have an 80 remote trigger that goes on the hotshoe and plugs into strobes but I am getting an adapter to control the flash. It's like a 17.00 adapter. You just have to make sure of the output etc. I am on phone and don't have the info in front of me.
