Sitemap Question

I know there have been some threads on sitemaps, but didnt find exactly what I was looking for, so thought I would post the question.

My site map is up to date and is uploaded and the URL's are indexed, problem is, when looking on google's site, all the information is old from my very first site map I submitted when I created the website. Every time I up date my site and add galleries I go back to Google and resubmit my sitemap. But even doing this, the information on google is old and I can't get the new information in the webmaster tools. The keywords, sitelinks, etc is old...

How does this get updated? I mean this is now 6 or 7 months old... My site has completely changed since I first put it up and added the first site map.

I even went in the other night and deleted everything and added it back, but still old data. But if I look at the sitemap itself it is up to date...

any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

I just checked your sitemap (from http://www.chrisfowlerphotography.net/sitemap-index.xml) and see that the data in it was last updated Jan 20, 2011 - that is probably the last time you made a change to something (btw, thats all you need to do in order to trigger a new sitemap being generated - add a new keyword, photo, or something like that).

My guess is that Google is just processing your data, though it does seem peculiar it would be out-of-date for so long. Do you have some examples of pages that you think should be there and are not, and pages that are there that should not be?

I will use one category as an example:

    http://www.chrisfowlerphotography.net/JacksonvilleGiants

I have over 1200 images, all keyworded and captioned with "Jacksonville Giants", etc. I have more content/images in this category then the rest of my site, yet none of the galleries or pages are in the google webmaster tools. They are all in my sitemap, and even when I go to resubmit my sitemap, google says it found x number of pages and indexed X number of pages.

That all sounds great, but problem is, if I click on keywords, those keywords don't even appear, I went through all 200 keywords and nothing. So if google doesnt update the keyword section, then when people type "Jacksonville Giants" in google, my site will never appear, which is what is happening...

So just trying to figure out how to get what is in my sitemap in google, because it's old data, back from when I first submitted the sitemap, since then the data within webmaster tools has not changed, no matter how many times I resubmit my sitemap with new data... ne_nau.gif

I also have a blog with blogspot, and some of the images appear in google images when typing "Jacksonville Giants", but I don't get anything from my smugmug site...

Also, I resubmit my sitemap every time I add a new gallery/changes to my site, same goes with my blog. But the weird part is, my blog stuff is correct in google webmaster tools, it is all up to date. But nothing from my smugmug site is up to date... Very Strange, I guess thats because google owns blogspot.. lol.....headscratch.gif

Last night I added another gallery to my site and created a new blog post. I then resubmitted my sitemap on google. What is funny is today my blog site in webmaster tools is already updated with my new blog post, yet my smugmug site is still months old........ne_nau.gif

    Nothing? lol

Also on another strange note, if I just go to google and put site:www.chrisfowlerphotography.net, I get all my links, and I look at images and the only images that show up are the ones from my blog and the ones in my popular photos section on my smugmug site. So why are only the popular photos showing up? they are the same images, just in differnet galleries, but yet the keywording, alt tags and captions are all the same..headscratch.gif

The data data on google is still not updated... :-(

any help is greatly appreciated. I cant drive traffic to my site if it's not in google...

am I doing something wrong with my galleries/site? why is google not updating it's index with my keywords, links, etc.

If your trying to be found in Google, you have no "keywords" in your home page. No location, no specialties...nothing except for your name, and I know people are not going to search for your name. Read my SEO for the Photographer link in my sig.

I guess I am confused as to what you are seeing?

Here is the page source straight from the internet:

    Chris Fowler Photography

This is from the homepage on my site, it has title, location, keywords and descriptions...

I am also talking about all my galleries, they are all captions, keyworded, etc but not found in google. my sitemap is uptodate, but if you look in webmaster tools, all the data Google has for my site is old, not current, even after submitting my new sitemap several times....

I am by no means an SEP expert, so I am seeking suggestions and advice..

    Thanks!

The <title> is one of the most important element for SEO. Right now your title only includes your business name <title>Chris Fowler Photography</title>. If you want somebody to Google you, you should include your location and what you do <title>Jacksonville, Fl Wedding, Portrait and Sports Photography</title>....or something like that. Adding a short bio about what you do and where your located on your home page can help for SEO as well as your visitors.
