Ocean's Calling

With the stormy weather clearing overnight, I placed my bets on a good sunrise and trekked out to the coast this morning. I walked around a bit and found a comp I liked, set up and took a couple of test shots to get my settings correct. This was the second test shot I took before a wave drenched me and my gear. After I cleaned everything off, the light had passed, and the shots I took from then on were plagued by salt grime I could not get off my lens (using my high tech method of wiping my lens with my shirt). It turned out well enough, though, so I thought I'd share. Its a 15 second single exposure for the cloud streaks and misty water, Canon 5DII, Nikon 14-24mm lens with adapter, f/20, ISO 50. Nice silkiness in the water from the long exposure. Great color in the sky too. Hope the camera cleaned up OK.

This is just lovely. The colors are one thing but you got just an incredible amount of smoothness in the water. It sure looks like fog.

This is really great. The colors and light are fantastic, as is the silkiness of the water and cloud streaks. A very pleasing image to look at.

Thanks for the comments. The weather seal on the Canon so far has held up well, my camera has been dunked by waves several times at this location, and also along the Pacific Coast. My only worry was with the lens- the Nikon 14-24 has a protruding front element that does not allow for filters, and I usually always use a UV filter on my lenses for protection. So I was a little worried about the microabrasions I certainly caused by wiping the salt water across the lens. Sometimes, I guess, you really have to get in there to get a nice shot.
