The theme for this challenge is Parade. Parade is a photographic opportunity galore. Nothing can compare to the excitement and the awesome sights and sounds at a parade. Being in LA, I always look forward to New Year's Day to go see the Rose Parade in Pasadena. The floats are beautiful, but they wouldn't be complete without the riders, the performers, the bands, and the animals, horses especially. So share 3 photos of any parade that you've attended. Do include parade name and city.
The challenge begins now, and ends on Sunday, February 6th 2011 at 12:01 AM PST. For those who haven't been to a parade, this should give you time to attend a lunar new year parade in your area and participate in this challenge.
Official Mini Challenge rules can be found at this thread.
Here are some examples to get started:
1. Rose Queen and Princesses - royal riders
2. Jack - cool rider
3. Tuskegee Airmen - surviving heroes
4. Jackie Chan - celebrity rider
5. Zorro - legendary rider

Hope I'm doing this right -- my first entry!
This was the night parade in Los Altos, CA. The local high school bands outfit their uniforms with glowsticks, and small businesses and neighbors put together lighted floats. Santa comes at the end.
It's a good time! Come on out next year!

After braving the crowds just to get to my building that morning, i couldn't force myself to make it back out onto the streets, so i had to settle for the view from the 25 floor. I do regret not having made it to the street, but at the same time, being so high up gives a better sense of the magnitude of the crowd that congregated to celebrate the Giants victory.

The only parades that I've ever had the opportunity to see in person are our local ones for Christmas and Veteran's Day. Very cheesy and almost all low-tech, lol. Horrid time of day for pictures--Veteran's Day parade runs mid-day and the Christmas parade starts just before dusk. I'm not sure they are worthy, but here's what I have:
Killeen, TX Christmas Parade: one of the few decorated floats that participate. The setting sun was right in my eyes so I was grateful this float blocked it for me for a few seconds!
Killeen, TX Christmas parade after dark--this is near the end. I like this one because one of the young riders has fallen asleep in her mother's arms and the little boy looks like he's bored with it all.
2. Killeen TX Veteran's Day parade--my daughter's high school band is ready to go.
Our local efforts may be lame, but these are the only two local parades and is what I have.

1. First the Canadian Snowbirds buzz the downtown.
2. Then the Calgary Stampede band plays... here they are playing Ram Jam's "Black Betty".
3. The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) is always nice to watch.
Yeeee Haaaaaa!!!
Cheers!!

Rose Dragon
First two are from the Fremont Street Parade in Seattle, the last is from the Rose Parade (of course).
I love your shot of the Rose Parade Dragon. Since I only get to watch that on TV, it's hard to see just how big those floats really are. Your image shows that very well. The dragon just dwarfs the crowd. Excellent shot!

I am going to give this a try...but my computer's hard drive died yesterday, so I am trying it from my iPad. If it doesn't work...my apologies!
