How many stops of light do you lose with each of the converters?

And do they retain all regular functions? (AF and whatnot)

It's equal to the converter Number!!!
    Steps of light lost with 2x on lens. 2.8 equals= 5.6 - then 1.4 would be 4.2.

Yes they retain their original functions. Shots through a lot of air on an overcast day will show a slight loss in sharpness with the lens all the way open to 2.8 and the 2.0TC attached. The picture of the woodpecker is an example of a 600mm with bright light and normal contrast.

i dont know many people with this lens, so ill just ask you if you happen to know....but how does this compare in autofocus speed to say...the nikkor 70-200 vr II?

i bought a tokina 11-16 off a guy and he had this lens and swore it was better than the 70-200 vr II

I own the 70-300VR, 80-400 and the 70-200 VRI as well. The 120-300 is, to me, faster than the 70-200 VR I. The 120-300 is now sold.

The 80-400 is my new favorite.
