Anyone have this Gitzo

Is it a good tripod ?

I was going to look at a manfrotto 222 ball head new. I like the grip on them. But thought i would ask in here about the Gitzo.

Come on ...just give me a clue. My old tripod that i paid $40 for 2 years ago has now a perm list to the right as its collapsing under the 20D & 400 mm.

Buy this Gitzo or go & get the manfrotto 222

I would think i am better off with the manfrotto...correct ?

I use the Gitzo 1325 and love it but I have no experience with the 1226. I have a friend who uses the Manforto 222 (Bogen 3265 in the states) and he is very happy with it. The maximum weight that it can hold is 5.5 pounds which could be a problem if you have some long glass.

Thanks harry...the Gitzo in the ebay add says it can hold 13 pounds so should be ok.

I would love to get a tripod that extends to 185 odd cm (74 inches) as im fairly tall & it really starts to get annoying bending to shoot.

Im off to our 'big' gear shop today so will see what they have.

I'm using the Gitzo 1298 (the new Basalt series), and I like it. Lightweight, but sturdy enough for my heavier combo. I don't have the centered ballhead that is showing, I use the 1276M in stead (off center one). If I'd go for a ballhead now, it'd probably be one of the Novoflex things (or a Markins one). I know they're also available in Australia. Not cheap, but then again what good in this crazy hobby of ours ever is cheap?

Just got my Manfrotto 055 Pro Black... (055PROB). I know It's available in MagFibre, more expensive, true... but I think it's sexy as ever.

I have a smaller Gitz that I've been traveling on the bike with. It's an 1126.
Heck, I could open a tripod shop cause I also have a much larger 1320.

The 1320 can handle the weight of the 500 + mkii body. The similarly sized
Bogen flexes with that combo.

A great tripod is a tool you'll have for life.

Very nice (novoflex)...but the price :jawdrop

I really like gitzo but im smitten with the 222 ball head. Im torn between them.

Tks ian. We have a shop here that only sells the higher end stuff. Stuff the other shops wont hold. They are gitzo agents & i drooled in there for a good while this arvo.

Mate a 44 gallon drum would flex under a 500 & MKII

Mate that gitzo in my 1st post on Ebay...will i simply buy the cork filled plate that goes under my 20D & the locking plate for it to be a worker ?

*nod* That's part of the reason I took the 055, it stands at least 6' when fully extended, which is taller than I am.

it can also do the center column at 90* (Horizontal) which is perfect for my low-angle dance work.

Im the other way around scott. Im 6'3 But when you add the 222 ball head onto the 190 it comes almost up to eye level.

I have to keep some sort of rein on this animal so i will try & keep it at the manfrotto 190 if i dont get the gitzo.

Had anothe rlook at the Gitzos today...just too much for what i need.

I am now the proud owner of a Manfrotto 190 pro with a 222 ball head.

I dont have to bend in half to shoot any more. Thanks for all your advise guys
