Lock and Dam #14 on the Mississippi in Le Claire, Iowa is a great place to photograph eagles in January. The birds fly and feed so close. There were about 50 birds in the area last weekend. It was extremely cold, but so worth it.

Always good to see an eagle or two. The third one captured some nice action. The first one has some wonderful detail in the feathers and I do like "in your face" crop but feel it's a bit tight in the frame and the use of the dramatic wing lines and textures could have been put to better use to improve composition. Doesn't look like you were graced with much sweet light. Winter really takes the fun out of the light. Thanks for sharing.

Such amazingly beautiful birds, and well captured, too! thumb.gif
I particularly like the third image. Fantastic action there. Those talons just look wicked!

I love the sharpness and detail in the first image, with that wonderfully clear eye. Not a fan of the tight crop though, and that is of course just a purely personal thing.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks all, I should have mentioned that #1 is not a crop. They were just flying that close. I believe that was shot at ~350MM. The birds were feeding about 15-20yards in front of us. Some of the longer lenses that were there were just too much for the closest action. I was shooting with an 80-400 on a Nikn D90.
